Stuttering Devices and More

Are you a person who has a stutter or stammer? Have you decided that the time has arrived when you want to find a solution to you stuttering or stammering problem? Do you dream of being able to achieve total fluency? Well if you have answered yes to one or more of these questions then this article may well be of interest to you as I am going to be writing about the types of speech therapy courses that are available to people who have a stammer or stutter.

Traditional speech and language therapy courses for stammering and stuttering

It would seem that the first place that people who have a stammer or stutter contact for help and guidance comes in the form of speech and language therapy. They may well have been referred to their local speech and language therapist by their doctor or their school. My personal experience of this type of therapy for stammering was far from a positive one, I actually attending speech and language for around fourteen years and I have to say that I was less than impressed with the treatment that I received. I had very little confidence in the advice that the speech therapists were providing and it seemed fairly obvious that they had a poor understanding as to what it was like to live life with a stutter or stammer.

Specialist stammering therapy courses on a group basis

There are a number of courses available to people who have a stutter or stammer that are on a group basis and of which are far more specialised than what one might receive from a speech and language therapist. These courses are likely to be far more beneficial for this reason however the idea that people are herded into a group would be my concern as I believe that each person has an individual set of difficulties and that they should be treated as such.

Specialist stammering therapies on a one-to-one basis

The specialist speech therapy courses for stammering or stuttering which are on a one-to-one basis are, in my opinion, the most beneficial form of treatment for this type of speech impediment. During the course, which typically has a duration of five days, the course attendee is able to explain the problems that they are facing to the speech coach and is then able to receive personal one-to-one therapy and guidance.
