Stuttering Devices

Stuttering Devices and More

We all know that for people who stutter, FEAR is an emotionally charged subject.

We fear to speak, we fear to be judged, we fear not to be liked, accepted and respected... we fear to be seen as worthless, we fear to face challenging situations, we fear making phone calls, we fear public speaking...we fear and we fear and we fear!

We are simply surrounded by all kinds of fears due to our stuttering challenge.

Therefore, today I wanted to talk about a fear which is holding us back and CAUSES MOST STUTTERERS TO FAIL.

Yes, it is probably one of the top reasons why we fail.

If you learn how to manage this fear, it would be a HUGE step in dissolving your stuttering iceberg.

And that fear is...

Fear of FAILURE.

I can hear you saying "What does it exactly mean and what does it have to do with overcoming stuttering?".

Let me try to explain it with a simple example which you can easily relate with.

Let's say you recently learned some effective tools, techniques and tips to manage your speech and you are required to practice those new skills by calling places on the phone and trying to manage your speech throughout those practice calls.

You believe in the benefit of the practice session but there is something which HOLDS YOU BACK, that inner voice coming deep inside of you;

..."WHAT IF I FAIL?"

And from that point on you start giving all kinds of MEANINGS to failing.

If I fail, that means I can't do it.

If I fail, I am not enough.

If I fail, I am worthless.

If I fail, I am a failure.

If I fail, that means nothing is going to work for me.

If I fail, I will never be able to succeed.

...and the list just goes on

I remember, in my case I was trying so hard to use my speaking technique during my practice sessions but as soon as I hit a block I was losing all my motivation and belief. One single failure and I was lost.

I was so afraid to fail.

In fact in order not to go through those "meanings" and emotions as a result of me failing, I was coming up with excuses even BEFORE attempting to practice my technique.

Excuses like; this probably won't work like all the others, it is not for me, practice sessions are meaningless, why do I have to use this tool, this is not realistic, the other person will probably think I am being disrespectful,I am not feeling good...

Excuses Excuses Excuses...

I was AVOIDING BIG TIME.

Why?

So I don't fail!

I wasn't realizing that avoiding meant NOT GETTING any results anyway!

Actually those excuses all come down to one single excuse.

I will most probably fail and the reason could be anything and everything BUT ME!

Do you know why?

Because we take failures PERSONALLY... and we have no idea what failure MEANS.

Then what does a failure mean? Is it really as bad and as destroying as we think?

Let me share a couple thoughts with you...

There is NO SKILL out there which you learn and start getting results and being successful right away. Think about tennis players, dancers, public speakers...

Do you think any of those people succeed WITHOUT FAILING NUMEROUS TIMES in the beginning?

Failure is a MANDATORY STEPPING STONE of success. You can only get one step closer to your ultimate goal by failing and LEARNING from those failures by deeply analyzing them.

You might not believe this but actually I sometime enjoy failure more than success! Do you know why?

Because when I fail I know there is something NEW which I could LEARN from that experience that will take me to my ultimate goal.

But when I succeed it is just a factor which keeps me motivated on my way to achieve my ultimate goal.

Does it make sense?

When you EQUIP yourself with effective tools, proven strategies and the right mindset, you'll eventually succeed if you FAIL ENOUGH TIMES.

Remember that fearing failure to the point that we don't even try something prevents us from ever truly knowing what we might just be capable of.

Failure is not an indicator showing WHO YOU ARE as a person, it rather shows what your APPROACH to a particular attempt was like.

Before I conclude this, keep in mind that;

Truly confident people aren't the ones who know for sure they'll succeed; they're the ones who know they'll HANDLE FAILURE when it happens.

Don't expect success without experiencing enough failures.

When you see those success stories on the media(TV,magazine, etc.) you ONLY see the END RESULT, but you can be hundred percent sure that success had been supported by a lot of FAILURES, MISTAKES and DRAWBACKS along the way!

...and I sincerely hope this article will make you reconsider your outlook to WHAT FAILURE IS and HOW TO APPROACH it so it serves your purpose and your ultimate goal.
